Proud supporters of the SPCA this summer
Caring for our environment has always been at the heart of what we do. But our commitment to care extends beyond sustainable products—it now also includes the wellbeing of the animals who share our homes, communities, and outdoor spaces.
This summer, we’re proud to announce that we’ve made a cash donation to the SPCA to support the incredible work they do across Aotearoa. And this isn’t intended as a one-off contribution—Ecopack is committed to making an annual donation going forward, helping the SPCA continue their vital mission year after year.
Why we support the SPCA
The SPCA plays a crucial role in protecting and advocating for animals who can’t speak for themselves. From rescuing animals in distress, to providing medical treatment, shelter, and adoption services, their team works tirelessly to ensure every animal has the chance to live a life free from cruelty and neglect.
They are there for abandoned pets, injured wildlife, overworked farm animals, and every creature in between. Their work is compassionate, skilled, and essential—and like many charities, they rely heavily on donations to keep going.
Summer in Aotearoa: A critical time for animal welfare
Summer and the holiday period are some of the busiest times of year for the SPCA. With families travelling, pets sometimes getting left behind, and temperatures rising, the risks to animals increase. Here’s how we can all do our part to protect animals during the warmer months:
Keep pets cool
- Provide plenty of shade and fresh water.
- Avoid walking dogs during the hottest part of the day to prevent heatstroke or burnt paw pads.
- Never leave animals in cars—even for a moment.
- Walk your dog in areas with bush canopy or a safe body of water to cool off in.
Plan ahead for the holidays
- If you’re going away, arrange trustworthy pet care early.
- Ensure pets are microchipped and details are up to date in case they wander.
- Consider fostering or temporarily homing animals in need through the SPCA.
- Stock up on Ecopack poop bags.
Watch for wildlife
Our beaches, bush tracks, and rivers are full of native wildlife.
- Keep dogs on leads in sensitive areas.
- Report any injured birds, seals, or other animals to the DOC hotline or local SPCA.
- Dispose of rubbish responsibly—plastic and food scraps can be fatal to wildlife.
A time to give back
The SPCA is under increased pressure during the festive season, yet funding typically drops as people focus on holiday spending. If you’re in a position to help, we warmly encourage you to support them too.
Even a small donation can:
- Provide food and shelter for abandoned animals
- Fund urgent medical treatment
- Support rescue missions
- Help rehome pets into loving families
Every contribution makes a difference.
Our ongoing commitment
As a Kiwi-owned business, and creators of pet poop bags, we feel a responsibility to care for the communities around us—including the animals that enrich our lives and ecosystems. Our small donation is one little way we’re helping create a kinder, safer Aotearoa for all living beings.
We’re grateful for the SPCA and the remarkable work their team and volunteers do every day. This summer, join us in showing them some love. Visit the SPCA website to donate, adopt, foster, volunteer, or learn more about how you can help.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference.
