Our 2026 Plastic Collective Impact Report
At Ecobags, sustainability is more than a promise. It is something we want to measure, report, and keep improving.
We are pleased to share our 2026 Plastic Collective Impact Report, highlighting the real outcomes delivered through our plastic recovery initiative in partnership with SEArcular by Greencore in Surabaya, Indonesia.
This project supports the collection of plastic waste from areas within 50 km of the ocean, helping prevent ocean leakage while supporting local collection and recycling systems. It is one part of our wider commitment to sustainability and more responsible packaging choices.
Our 2026 impact
This year, our contribution helped deliver:
- 20,000 kg of plastic collected, helping prevent plastic waste from entering the ocean
- 5,000 kg of plastic recycled, diverting waste from landfill
- 59% women participation across the project workforce
- 237 waste pickers supported with fair compensation, incentives, and access to healthcare
These results show the environmental and social value that can be created when plastic recovery is done responsibly, transparently, and with the people behind the work in mind.
Why this matters
Plastic pollution is a global challenge, especially in coastal regions where unmanaged waste can easily enter waterways and the ocean.
By supporting verified plastic recovery projects, we can help fund the collection and recycling of plastic waste while also supporting the communities involved in that work. This aligns with our focus on choosing better materials, improving our supply chain, and making practical changes that reduce environmental impact.
Independently verified impact
The impact from this initiative is independently verified under the Verra Plastic Waste Reduction Standards. This provides assurance around environmental integrity, social safeguards, traceability, and impact reporting.
For our customers and partners, this means the results are not just estimated or promised. They are reported through a recognised verification framework, helping support stronger ESG reporting and supply-chain accountability.
Supporting people and better systems
This project is also about people. Through the SEArcular Collection & Recycling Project, waste pickers are supported with fair compensation, incentives, and access to healthcare.
This reflects the kind of community impact we believe matters: practical support, measurable outcomes, and long-term value for people and the environment.
A step toward more responsible packaging
As a Kiwi-owned business offering sustainable everyday products since 2005, Ecobags is committed to making better choices across our packaging, products, and sourcing.
This report is one part of that journey. It reflects our continued focus on reducing environmental impact, supporting responsible recycling, and contributing to projects that create measurable social value.
We are proud to share these outcomes and will continue working toward practical, transparent, and meaningful sustainability progress.
