What are Ecopack compostable poop bags made from?

Compostable bags contain a vegetable-starch bio resin, PLA and PBAT. Ecopack compostable products are all certified to strict international standards and will break down in moist conditions, returning to carbon dioxide and water without leaving harmful residues in the process. Event the ink used in printing on these products is water-based and non-toxic.

How long will they take to decompose?

Compostable bags usually take approximately 90-180 days to decompose depending on the composting environment. Industrial composting is typically quicker than home composting for two main reasons:

1) temperatures reached inside a home composting bin is usually only a few centigrade degrees higher than the outside temperature, and this is true for short time periods (in industrial composting, the temperatures reach 50°C – with peaks of 60-70°C – for a number of months).
2) home composting bins are managed by everyday people and the composting conditions might not always be ideal (in contrast, industrial composting plants are managed by qualified personnel and kept under ideal working conditions).

How do I dispose of compostable bags filled with poop?

If your local composting facility accepts pet waste, send them there.

Alternatively, you can start your own home pet compost. Making a home compost system is simple - follow the instructions in our blog - or your can purchase a ready-made version from the likes of Ensopet. Please make sure the resulting compost is only used on trees and flowers - keep pet waste compost away from your veggie patch or edible plants.

Are they flushable?

No! As a general rule, stay away from flushing your dog’s poop with or without a bag. It really depends on what water treatment plant your waste goes to, but flushing dog poop can upset water balance due to the high levels of BOD (biological oxygen deprivation).

What is the difference between the Ecopack green compostable poop bags and the blue ones?

Ecopack's green poop bags are compostable. The blue ones are made with recycled ocean-bound plastic. Both are more sustainable alternatives than conventional plastic poop bags.

Make your choice on which to use, based on how you intend to dispose of them. If your likely to throw your filled bag in the nearest public rubbish bin while out at the park - choose the blue recycled ocean-bound plastic bags. If you're going to pop the poop in your home compost when you're finished walking around the block - choose the green compostable bags.
